Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - On Friday, Aug. 22, an incident occurred at Little Angels Preschool and Childcare Center in Valdosta involving the safety and well-being of a 4-year-old boy.

According to the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), early reports indicate that following the day’s transportation, the child fell asleep and was inadvertently left alone on the center’s vehicle for over an hour.

The report says during this time, the child was neither transported to their home nor brought back into the facility, and center staff remained unaware of the child’s presence on the vehicle.

DECAL said it is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this situation. The organization said it is unclear if medical attention was sought after the child was discovered.

“DECAL remains dedicated to working closely with all relevant parties to ensure a comprehensive and impartial review of all facts,” said Reg Griffin, DECAL Chief Communications Officer. “DECAL understands that this situation may cause significant concern for some families. We are committed to supporting families in finding safe and nurturing child care arrangements.”

WALB reached out to the the child care center on Monday, Sept. 8.

Chanita Irvin, Owner and Director said, “Little Angels Pre-School & Child Care Center are conducting an internal investigation of this incident.”

WALB will follow up with the child care center and DECAL once the investigation is complete.
