City of Sylvester, Sylvester Police release statement on ‘unprofessional behavior’

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - In a joint statement, the City of Sylvester and the Sylvester Police Department say they recently investigated an incident of “unprofessional behavior” and addressed the matter.

WALB reached out to Police Chief Ronald Jackson about the nature of that incident. Chief Jackson said an officer “showed the wrong finger” to someone else over the weekend. He also said the police department has reached out to the person who the officer disrespected and “made peace.”

The city said in a Facebook post:

“The City of Sylvester and the Sylvester Police Department sincerely apologize for the unprofessional behavior displayed during the encounter. As we move forward, we are committed to treating everyone with the utmost respect. The City of Sylvester and the Sylvester Police Department take pride in serving our community and ensuring every citizen feels safe and heard.”

WALB has made contact with the person who posted a video of the alleged incident on Facebook, as well.

The city said they, and the police department, have investigated the incident and addressed the matter.

The name of the officer involved has not been released.
