AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) – The City of Americus has been awarded $1 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support critical drainage and water improvements.
The project will directly benefit residents along Bessie Mays Circle, Norman Cole Street, and LeFuse Street. In total, the improvements will impact 184 residents, 96% of whom are low-to-moderate-income individuals.
City officials say the upgrades are about more than infrastructure, noting they will also improve the health, safety, and quality of life for families and children in the community.
Americus leaders thanked residents and supporters who helped secure the funding during a six-month process, calling the award “a meaningful step toward creating a safer, healthier, and more vibrant community.”
More details are available on the City of Americus Facebook page.
