PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (WALB) - One of the brightest and most popular holiday attractions in Georgia boasts seven miles of Christmas lights this year.

“Fantasy in Lights” at Callaway Resort & Gardens in Pine Mountain strives to be bigger and better each year, according to Gracie Thompson, Public Relations Manager.

“Even bigger and better this year is we added a brand-new lighted scene, so that brings our total to 18 this year,” Thompson told WALB.

Getting ten million lights up and ready for the Christmas season takes a lot of planning, something the Callaway staff starts each summer.

“We get started in July, if you can believe that,” Thompson laughed. “So July is when all the scenes come out from storage, and everything starts to get repaired from the year before, gets ready to go on out, so it takes a good few months.”

Thompson said the turnaround comes quickly, too, as putting up the Christmas displays falls directly behind another popular fall event at Callaway.

“We only have 10 days between the end of our ‘Pumpkins at Callaway’ event and the beginning of ‘Fantasy in Lights’ to completely flip everything around that we couldn’t do when it was time for ‘Pumpkins at Callaway,’” said Thompson.
