ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Prepare for a cold and dry weekend. Tonight, a dry cold front ushers in a new plunge of colder air. The colder air arrives just as the Winter Solstice occurs @ 4:21am Saturday. This occurs when the path of the sun is the furthest south in the Northern Hemisphere, creating the shortest day and the longest night.

Expect winter’s chill over the weekend as temperatures drop below average with lows around freezing low-mid 30s while highs only top low-mid 50s through Monday.

Still dry Christmas Eve and seasonably cool lows low 30s highs upper 50s. Wetter and warmer Christmas Day with scattered showers and lows mid 40s and highs seasonal mid 60s.

Late week clouds hold with a slight chance of rain with lows low 50s highs upper 60s around 70.
