ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Authorities have captured an inmate who recently escaped from an Emanuel County probation center, the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said Monday.
On Sunday night, the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) issued a statewide lookout for 43-year-old Thomas Wright after he escaped from the Emanuel Probation Detention Center in Twin City.
Around 1:10 a.m. Monday, a state trooper learned from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) that Wright was driving a stolen white Chevrolet Tahoe east on State Route 4, GSP said Monday afternoon.
GSP said the trooper saw the vehicle drive past him eastbound on State Route 4 and through a red light at Augusta Tech Drive in Augusta.

When RCSO units arrived, the trooper hit his emergency lights and siren to pull over Wright, but Wright allegedly kept driving and led law enforcement on a chase, at times reaching 90 mph in a 45-mph zone.
“After observing the driver’s high speeds and reckless behavior,” the trooper performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to disable the stolen car near Cornelia Road.
Wright was captured and taken to an area hospital for “his complaint of minor injuries.” GDC then responded to the hospital to take custody of Wright.
Wright faces additional charges from GSP for felony fleeing, failure to obey a traffic control device, and driving while unlicensed. RCSO is handling charges related to the stolen vehicle.
