Broward county has an air quality alert due to smoke from nearby wildfires in the Everglades. This traffic camera shows a location near the fires - Indian Trace and I-75 (Florida 511).
Two fires, both burning in the Everglades northwest of Fort Lauderdale are impacting visibility and air quality in South Florida.
According to Fort Lauderdale’s Fire Rescue, smoke from the fire impacted the metro area, with people reporting the smell of smoke since late Tuesday night.
The Florida Forest Service reports the 1600 acre “Mile Marker 39 Fire” is zero percent contained.
Nearby, the 250 acre “Sawgrass Fire” was also reported in the same region of the Everglades in Broward County.
The county’s Natural Resource Division advised the air quality is considered unhealthy, especially for people considered part of sensitive groups.
People in the region were advised to shorten their time outdoors if possible.
The National Weather Service advised drivers in Broward County could experience visibility issues where dense smoke is located.
