WASHINGTON (TNND) — A U.S. military raid conducted in northern Syria on Tuesday killed a top ISIS member who was set to become the group's next leader in the country, Fox News reports.
A U.S. official told the outlet a key ISIS financier was also killed in the raid and said both individuals were planning attacks in Syria and Iraq.
The senior ISIS member was considered a "strong candidate" to become ISIS Syria Emir, the official told the outlet.
No members of the military were injured and no civilians were injured or killed.
The operation continues the Trump administration's counterterrorism efforts in Syria.
