LILBURN, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — On Tuesday, the state continued to restore the accounts of Georgia SNAP recipients with funds that had been halted during the government shutdown.

“I got my benefits back in a trickle,” said Suzie Moore, a SNAP recipient in Lawrenceville.

Moore, 74, said she got $16 last week returned to her EBT account, and an additional $8 on Monday. She said she typically gets $23 each month as a retired senior.

“All recipients should have their full benefits by early next week,” said a spokesperson for Georgia’s Department of Human Services (DHS), which oversees the distribution of SNAP funds in the state.

The DHS spokesperson said those recipients whose distribution date had passed and who received partial benefits got the remainder of their allotment on Monday.

The spokesperson added that full benefits will be issued to SNAP recipients according to the normal issuance schedule for the remainder of the month.

There are three more issuance dates this month, according to DHS.

“I’m budgeting to the nth degree. That last penny is screaming, let me tell you,” said Moore.

She fears the Trump administration could issue more changes to the SNAP benefit program, impacting her ability to budget each month for food.

“Yes, I got the rest of my SNAP. It trickled in, but I got it. But what is Trump going to do, what can Trump do, and what are our lawmakers going to do about all this?” said Moore.

On Tuesday, Gwinnett County hosted a food distribution event at Bryson Park.

A Gwinnett County staff member told Atlanta News First they were able to help 759 families on Tuesday.

The county did not have specific numbers, but said that more families are showing up to their distribution events, compared to before SNAP benefits were halted.

“Prices of food is so high, it’s needed so much,” said Thelma Gibson, one of those who received a box of food on Tuesday.

DHS posted on social media Tuesday that it experienced an IT outage. A department spokesperson said that outage did not impact the issuance of SNAP benefits to EBT accounts.
