VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) announced they seized an AK-style pistol after a shooting in Valdosta on April 3.
Preston John Burns, 25, was arrested in connection to the shooting. He was seen on surveillance video firing the AK-style gun, a VPD press release said.
Police said the shooting happened at around 9 p.m. on the 400 block of South Fry Street. 911 callers said that people were shooting at each other, according to the release.
When officers got to the scene, they saw Burns’ vehicle leaving the parking lot. They stopped him and noticed the driver had an AK-style pistol inside the vehicle.
Rifle shell casings from the scene matched the caliber of the firearm in the vehicle, according to the release.
Burns was arrested and is being held at the Lowndes County Jail. He faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felony (felony) and reckless conduct (misdemeanor).
“Evidence collected at the scene shows two different rifles were shot. This store is busy and located right near a community center. We are fortunate that no one was injured,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.
No further details have been released. WALB is working to learn more.
The release asks anyone with further information about their case to please contact the Valdosta Police Department’s Bureau of Investigative Services at 229-293-3145, the crime tip line at 229-293-3091 or file a tip online here.
