ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Academy Sports + Outdoors will soon be opening is doors in Albany.

The store will not only provide customers with sporting goods, but also create 60 new jobs.

The over 55,000-square-foot store offers everything from athletic wear and fishing gear to camping equipment.

This marks Academy’s 22nd store in Georgia, and the first store in Albany.

“It’s always exciting to help be a part of the community, be a part of it in the aspect of bringing people jobs. We bring something fresh, something fun and something new to Albany, a city that hasn’t seen anything like us,” said Clevevon Bowens, store director for Academy Sports + Outdoors.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, Academy is giving a $5,000 shopping spree to 20 local kids at the Albany Boys & Girls Club.

The store will officially open to the public on Monday, Oct. 20. However, the grand opening deals will start on Friday, Oct. 17 and last until Sunday, Oct. 19.
