WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump is continuing his tour across the Middle East on Thursday with a bevy of stops before settling in at Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Emirati F-16s and Mirages escorted Trump and Air Force One into Abu Dhabi, a video from Trump's team showed.
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan greeted Trump upon his arrival, before the president headed to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Trump received a tour of the mosque, which is among the largest mosques in the world.
The president will also attend a state visit and dinner at Qasr al-Watan palace.
On Thursday morning, before traveling to the UAE, Trump participated in a breakfast in Doha with business leaders before saying goodbye to Qatari emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
At the breakfast, Trump said that he didn’t think Russian President Vladimir Putin would go to talks in Turkey with Ukraine if he weren’t there.
I didn’t think it was possible for Putin to go if I’m not there,” Trump said.
He also said India has offered to drop tariffs on U.S. goods to zero.
It’s very hard to sell into India and and they’ve offered us a deal with what basically they’re willing to literally charge us no tariff,” Trump said.
The president also spoke about Iran and working on a deal to ensure the nation does not have nuclear weapons.
"We’d like to see if we could solve the Iran problem in an intelligent way, as opposed to a brutal way," Trump said, noting that Qatar has been working toward a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program. "I said last night that Iran is very lucky to have the emir because he’s actually fighting for them. He doesn’t want us to do a vicious blow to Iran."
He also told business leaders that Iran has "sort of" agreed to discuss terms.
After his business breakfast, the president visited U.S. troops at Qatar’s al-Udeid Air Base. Comedian Theo Von was even on hand to do a set before Trump's address.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also addressed the troops, who supported the recent campaigns against the Houthis.
"When we’re threatened, America’s military will answer our enemies without even thinking about it. We have overwhelming strength and devastating force," Trump told the troops.
On Wednesday, Trump signed an agreement with Qatar that the White House says will generate an economic exchange worth at least $1.2 trillion.
Economic deals totaling more than $243.5 billion between the two nations were also announced, including a $200 billion deal where Qatar will buy airplanes from Boeing.
On Tuesday, Trump secured a $600 billion investment commitment in Saudi Arabia, focusing on energy security, defense, technology, and access to global infrastructure and critical minerals.
During Trump's Saudi visit, he also announced the removal of sanctions against Syria to "give them a chance at greatness."
