FentanylNarcoticsTraffickingATFArrestsFirearmsDeportedDMVWASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) — The Washington Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced Thursday that it arrested 17 people in connection with firearms and narcotics trafficking.
The investigation spanned over five states, including D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas. 122 firearms and 10,000 fentanyl pills are now off the streets and in the hands of authorities as a result of the operation.
The 17 people arrested were allegedly in the U.S. illegally, according to the ATF.

"They will be in the process of being deported back to the country where they were originally from and they will no longer commit violent crimes in the United States of America," said Anthony Spotswood, ATF's special agent in charge.
A number of agencies worked with the ATF to make these arrests, including:
- Homeland Security Task Force
- Drug Enforcement Agency
- Federal Bureau of Investigation
- U.S. Park Police
- Internal Revenue Service
- Metro Transit Police
