Description

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A motorcyclist died after a late-night crash in Augusta on Tuesday, according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said the victim was identified Wednesday as Daniel Paul Doyle, 60, of Augusta.

Deputies responded to the crash on Bobby Jones Expressway at mile marker 11 about the traffic fatality at 11 p.m.

When they arrived, a man was discovered in the grassy median on the eastbound side of the expressway, deputies say.

Preliminary investigation showed that the driver was traveling west on Bobby Jones and lost control of the motorcycle, according to authorities.

The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved, according to dispatchers.

The rider was pronounced dead at midnight on the scene, according to the coroner.

Bobby Jones Expressway eastbound and westbound from Doug Barnard Parkway to Laney Walker Boulevard were shut down until 5:30 a.m.

Authorities are in the early stages of investigation.

The coroner says the rider’s identification will not be released until a positive ID has been made and the next of kin has been notified.
