(CNN) - Mark your calendar if you like to plan ahead for unique celestial events.
NASA says a total eclipse of the sun, one that will last more than six minutes and 23 seconds at its peak, will take place two years from now on Aug. 2, 2027.
The solar eclipse’s length will be one of the longest in several decades.
Scientists say crossing that six-minute threshold will be similar to an eclipse that happened in 1991, which lasted six minutes and 53 seconds.
Space.com predicts the 2027 eclipse will be the longest one to occur until 2114.
The eclipse will be visible in parts of Africa, Europe and the Middle East, but most people in the United States will not get a chance to see it.
A solar eclipse happens when the moon moves between the sun and the Earth and casts a shadow on Earth.
