Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Friday, Aug. 8 marks four years since Nigel Brown, 9, was struck and killed by a stray bullet while asleep in bed in Dougherty County.

The only suspect currently being charged in the case, Gernardric Pittman, 35, was arrested three years later. Pittman was granted a $15,000 bond two months after his arrest.

Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards explained where his office is in the case now.

“We know that there’s other persons of interest that have been identified, but we need to gather the sufficient evidence to corroborate what we know,” DA Edwards said. ”In truth, what we want to do is have everybody that we know is involved in one case. But we want to assure the public, and the family of Nigel Brown, that we’re still working on the case. [We’re] making every effort to bring any perpetrators in this instance to justice.”

Now, there is an over $17,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and convictions of all persons involved.

Nigel’s mother, Yolander Brown-Ford, released a statement to WALB on Aug. 8 about how life has been without her son.

“Four years, and it’s still hard. It doesn’t get easier. Most of the time, the days get harder. Yes, they have someone charged, but it’s still not the same. Justice has still not been served.”

On Aug. 30, a Nigel Brown Benefit Ride is being held at 9:30 a.m. The event will start at the Albany Civic Center and end at Tifton Harley Davidson.

The entry fee is $15, and the passenger fee is $5.00.
