Description

ADEL, Ga. (WALB) - A 3-year-old from Adel who beat cancer is now helping other children going through similar circumstances.

The family of Zeke Cain, 3, is giving back with the help of several organizations in the Adel community. The organizations include Community Christian Academy, Nurtured Roots, Colquitt EMC, Adel First Assembly and many more.

Inspired by the care they received at Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center— Zeke’s family organized a blanket and cozy socks drive to provide comfort to families going through treatment.

“Our son went through treatment, and he used the blankets as comfort, and we just thought that other kids would enjoy having it as well,” Brandi Cain, Zeke’s mother said. “It gets cold up there when they’re getting their chemo, radiation and infusions done. It’s really cold on their little bodies.”

Over 100 pairs of socks and blankets were donated to Aflac Cancer Center, Jay’s Hope in Macon and the Ronald McDonald house in Atlanta. These donations benefit families who are at those places for an extended period of time.

“It’s just nice to have people in the community that know you and help you give back to other kids like Zeke,” Cain said. “Some of them walk in with nothing — just the clothes on their back, and they don’t have anything. So it’s good for those donations to keep coming in for those families.”

To everyone’s relief, the treatments worked, and 3-year-old Zeke is now healthy and playing outside with tractors!

Brandi said she encourages others to help out in the community in whatever small or big ways they can.
