FITZGERALD, Ga. (WALB) — Three convicted felons were arrested Thursday, March 5, on a range of charges in Ben Hill County, officials said. The residence that was searched by law enforcement officials, leading to the arrests, was about one block away from Legion Park, according to the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office (BHCSO).

Legion Park is located at 816 North Main Street in Fitzgerald. The sheriff’s office described the park as “an area where many families and children gather to enjoy time together.”

BHCSO said officials searched a residence in the 300 block of West Ohoopee Street after gathering information about a person who had previously been arrested for selling methamphetamine in December 2025.

While searching the residence, officials said they found multiple baggies of methamphetamine packaged for sale, as well as items commonly used for narcotics distribution like digital scales and packaging materials.

Additionally, BHCSO said officers found a loaded handgun inside the residence. It is illegal for convicted felons to be in possession of a firearm.

The sheriff’s office said the three subjects present at the home at the time of the search warrant were convicted felons.

BHCSO said the three individuals were taken into custody. Their names and specific charges were not listed. Officials said their collective charges include sale of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and other felony and misdemeanor charges.

The sheriff’s office said more arrests and charges are expected, as the investigation remains ongoing.
