Description
BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - Two individuals have been arrested in connection to the shooting death of 8-year-old Kylen Powell.
Both the 13-year-old accused of shooting Powell and Powell’s grandmother, 49-year-old Knisha Ann Perkins, have been arrested.

Perkins was arrested on Tuesday, July 15, and charged with three counts of cruelty to children in the second degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The 13-year-old was also arrested on Tuesday, July 15, and he was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
Both were arrested in Decatur County, but they were arrested at separate addresses.
According to Decatur County Deputy Coroner DeWitt Phillip, the 13-year-old boy shot and killed Powell sometime around 11 p.m. on Friday, July 11.
During the investigation, it was determined that the victim was shot by a 13-year-old relative with a firearm that was present in the residence.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), no adults were present when the shooting took place.
However, officials did confirm that the shooting took place at the Perkins’ home located in the 3000 block of Vada Road.
We now know that in addition to the 8-year-old and 13-year-old, there was also a 1-year-old child present at the time of the shooting. The 1-year-old was not harmed during the incident.
Decatur County deputies responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call. When deputies arrived on scene, they found Powell deceased from the injures he sustained during the shooting, the GBI reports.
Together, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and GBI worked the scene to collect evidence, and Powell’s body was sent off to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
