WASHINGTON (7News) — 7News was the first to report a story about a family given the wrong ashes of their baby boy by a D.C. funeral home -- Now the family is filing a $10 million lawsuit.

On Jan. 16, 2025, the 7News I-Team attempted to ask Tresa Dunn, the owner of Dunn and Sons Funeral Home in D.C., multiple questions at her funeral home, including what happened to the ashes of a baby boy named Micari.

We first aired our conversation with Dunn in our original I-Team investigation after attempting on several occasions to reach the funeral home via email and on the phone.

Macari passed away last July and is the son of Brittani Davis and Michael Jackson.

"If you don't know what you are talking about, I suggest you leave,” said Tresa Dunn, the owner of Dunn and Sons Funeral Home.

"That's why I'm here asking you questions,” said 7News I-Team Investigative Reporter Scott Taylor.

"That's why I'm telling you to leave, sir,” said Dunn.

"Ya, we have left. Have a great day,” said Taylor.

"You haven't left because this is still my property. So, get off of it,” said Dunn.

"Thanks for being so cordial to us; we appreciate it,” said Taylor.

"Sir, if you are recording something, I suggest you get rid of it right now,” said Dunn.

"We can record anything we want to,” added Taylor.

"No, you cannot. No, you cannot,” said Dunn.

"I'm on the sidewalk now,” said Taylor.

“I'm going to ask you to put that down,” said Dunn.

"Now you are just being embarrassing. Why are you pushing on me?" asked Taylor.

"I'm not pushing on you,” said Dunn.

"Why don't you just answer my questions? Pretty simple questions. What happened to the ashes?" said Taylor.

Dunn and Sons sent 7News a statement last week after we sent their lawyer 13 questions:

"The Dunns have repeatedly expressed an interest in returning the cremains to the family. The incident is a mix-up void of any fraud, malice, or intent. Both babies had the same name. Mrs. Dunn wasn’t informed of the date written by the crematorium. The cremation occurred on August 15th. Nothing further will be stated."

In February, 7News reported on social media that Asanti Williams told us she is a licensed Funeral Director at Dunn and Sons Funeral Home. She was also the Vice Chair of D.C.'s Board of Funeral Home Directors under the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection until our original investigation aired last January. She resigned from the board on Feb. 4.

Asanti Williams is facing a $3,000 fine from DLCP in connection with the missing ashes.

Dunn and Sons is facing a $10,000 fine and three violations, including willfully making false reports.

Both are appealing, but so far, no date for a hearing has been set by D.C.'s Office of Administration Hearings.

Micari's mom still doesn't have his ashes.

"Heartbroken. I feel like I'm missing something," said Brittani Davis, Micari's mom.

If you follow me on X, you were the first to find out that the mom and dad filed a lawsuit against Dunn and Sons Funeral Home, owner Tresa Dunn and Asanti Williams.

Davis said the funeral home admitted it made a mistake.

They told her she was given the ashes of a baby girl named Makari Davis, first name spelled with a K. Davis's son's first name, Micari, is spelled with a C.

"I would say you should be ashamed of yourself and I would tell you to bring the other family forward so we can exchange ashes," added Brittani Davis. "Which I don't think there is another family."

The funeral home did offer to return the $1,200 cost of the cremation to the Davis family and it apologized.

"Every action comes with consequences, and this is their consequence. They need to be held accountable," said Davis.
