Description

THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - A structure fire left one man dead and another seriously injured early Sunday, Jan. 4 morning in Thomas County, according to the Thomas County Fire Rescue.

Around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, crews were called to a report of a structure fire at the corner of Singletary Road and Highway 84, with potentially two people and a pet inside, Fire Chief Chris Jones told WCTV Monday afternoon.

Moments later, firefighters and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Once emergency responders arrived, it was determined that a man managed to exit the home and was transported to a burn center shortly after “with significant injuries,” the chief said.

However, a second man, identified as 78-year-old Charles Gilbreath of Thomas County, died, according to officials.
