As the car turned onto Blackshear Road, it lost control and crashed. The car crashed into a fence on private property, and three individuals fled on foot.
Deputies searched the car to find a large amount of marijuana and firearms. According to GCSO, one of the weapons was stolen, and the others had been illegally converted to fully automatic weapons.
About an hour after the crash, deputies captured a suspect, 28-year-old Marcus Smith of Albany, GCSO said.
Smith faces multiple charges:
- Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute
- Obstruction of a law enforcement officer
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
The sheriff’s office is still working to identify the other two suspects and secure additional warrants.
