CRISP COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A statement from the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) on Facebook states that on Jan. 21, a routine motorist assist in Crisp County escalated into a multi-county pursuit after the driver fled from law enforcement.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 21, a CCSO deputy approached a stationary vehicle on Old Albany Road near McKinney Road. Officials say the car had emergency flashers activated, suggesting the driver might need assistance.

However, when the deputy made contact, the driver, later identified as Mykera Jones, a 26-year-old from Dawson, was found asleep inside the vehicle.

The release states that during the initial interaction, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana. Further investigation revealed that Jones did not possess a valid driver’s license and had multiple outstanding warrants, CCSO said.

Officials say when asked to exit the vehicle, Jones refused to cooperate.

Jones then accelerated southbound on Old Albany Road toward Highway 300 at a high rate of speed, initiating a pursuit that would cross county lines.

The chase continued into Worth County, where officials say the Warwick Police Department joined the effort to apprehend the fleeing driver. Officers successfully located and arrested Jones at a local gas station.
