GEORGIA. (WALB) —Rainfall and improving drought conditions across Georgia are contributing to a better outlook for wildfire predictions across the state.

The National Interagency Coordination Center forecasts normal Wildfire potential in Georgia until August 2026.

Even with improving conditions, the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) is still responding to Wildfires across the state.

The GFC asks Residents to take precautions to prevent more fires by

  • Following all local burning regulations
  • Never leaving campfires unattended
  • Properly disposing of smoking materials
  • Using caution with equipment that may create sparks
  • Staying aware of weather and drought conditions

A map from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows the majority of southwest Georgia under a Moderate Drought. Most of those Counties were under An Exceptional or Extreme Drought in the spring of 2026.

As of June 18, 2026, the following Southwest Georgia Counties are still under a drought condition
