ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Thursday, Jan. 9, has been declared the National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.
The National Day of Mourning is considered a federal holiday, meaning post offices, the stock market, and banks will be closed for the day.

The following businesses will be closed:
- Sumter County Schools will be closed for the day, however, faculty and staff are asked to report to work during regular business hours until noon.
- Downtown Americus, and Americus Main Street, will be closed for the day. Normal hours will be resumed on Friday, Jan. 10.
- All sites at Jimmy Carter National Historical Park will open at 9:00 a.m.. The Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm will close at noon and the Plains High School and the Plains Depot will close at 7:00 p.m.
- All Georgia Disaster Recovery Centers will be closed for the day. Normal hours will be resumed on Friday, Jan. 10.
