SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Wednesday, the Justice Department announced that the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia is stepping down.

Jill Steinberg’s last day will be Friday, January 17th.

The Justice Department said her departure coincides with the pending transition to a new presidential administration.

She was appointed by President Joe Biden back in February 2023.

Steinberg released a statement saying in part quote, “Serving as U.S. Attorney has been a distinct honor and privilege, and I am grateful for the hard work, camaraderie, and friendship of the dedicated professionals who continue to serve on behalf of the American people.”
