Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Rainfall is in the forecast this week to help dent a Drought with roots that go all the way back to last Summer. Drought-busting rainfall is not expected, but a wetter pattern will give us some rain chances through much of the week.

TONIGHT/SUNDAY: Scattered showers will continue as we head into the evening. These will run out of steam after sunset though, likely by 11pm much of the rain will be easing up. It will still feel damp throughout the night, morning lows look to be in the low-mid 60s.
Widespread Fog is likely in the morning across SGA. Folks near the Pineland Road Wildfire in Echols/Clinch county could potentially see “Super Fog”, which is wildfire smoke and fog mixed together further decreasing visibility. Drive slowly and with caution in the morning and avoid using high beams.
Sunday afternoon will be partly sunny and warm, highs will be in the mid 80s. Isolated-Scattered Storms will be possible once again in the afternoon, perhaps have the umbrella on hand just in case. Any rain will likely start easing heading into the evening.

MONDAY-TUESDAY: Monday will be a bit cooler as the “Wedge” builds in from the east. Our eastern counties will be the coolest. Rain is not expected, but a stray shower may be possible along our Florida-Georgia border counties.

Tuesday will be warmer, the wedge weakens and overall temperatures climb back into the mid-upper 80s. A cold front will draw near to our west which may give a stray shower chance to our NW counties, but many of us just like on Monday will stay dry and decently sunny.
WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY: A cold front begins its passage and will stall out through the time frame. Each day will bring a decent chance for rain. Wednesday looks to be the warmest day with highs well into the 80s, while Thursday will feature highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.
- Wednesday: the cold front will start to pass bringing scattered showers. Better chances for rain the more north you are.
- Thursday: a low looks to develop off the stalled front to our south. How much rain we will see depends on where the front stalls. If it stalls closer to SGA, we may see some decent rain, but if it stalls further south than we may not see much.
FRIDAY-NEXT WEEKEND: The stalled front looks to develop a strong low pressure system starting Friday. We could get some rain late Friday from this system, but it will likely bring most of its rain to SGA over the weekend. This looks to be our next widespread rainfall event. By the end of this upcoming week, models agree that SGA could see at least 1″ of rainfall widespread with isolated areas seeing more.

Overall, this week looks to bring beneficial rainfall to help with the drought and ongoing wildfires, but it will not be enough to bust the drought or put out any fires completely. We will need many more days of consistent and soaking rainfall for those two things to happen.

WILDFIRE UPDATE: The Pineland Road Wildfire is the biggest active Wildfire in the US currently. The latest information from the Georgia Forestry Commission has the wildfire near 32,000 acres in size. Air Quality in areas surrounding the fire aren’t expected to be as bad as they were earlier this week.
