Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A repeat performance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast for South Georgia through the weekend into early next week as moisture levels will continue to be high throughout the area until a drier air mass filters in late next week, just in time for the holiday weekend.
Until then, however, periods of showers and thunderstorms will dot the landscape in the afternoon and evening hours. While there will be plenty of dry intervals with the sun peeking out from time to time, most locations will see rainfall at least two or three out of the next five days through Wednesday.
With the loss of intense heat and dynamics aloft, severe weather will become less of a threat into the weekend and next week. However, repeated rounds of rainfall will lead to flooding becoming a threat in areas that see heavier rain totals. The most prone areas as of Friday night appear to be east of an Americus to Albany line and then north of an Albany to Moultrie to Adel to Nashville line, where some spots have seen 2-4″ of rainfall in the past couple of days.
The silver lining with all the clouds and rain is that high temperatures will be more manageable, held down in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Lows will be mainly in the 68-73 degree range.
