ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Temperatures are warming up today ahead of this weekend’s cold front. Today’s highs will be in the 60s with plentiful sunshine. Clouds start moving in this evening ahead of rainfall on Saturday. Lows tonight will be in the 40s across the region.
Saturday will be wet, with rainfall likely throughout the day. A few thunderstorms are possible as warmer air resides in the area. Saturday highs will be approaching 70 degrees. Rainfall may even continue into Sunday as this system slows down, producing flooding conditions for parts of South Georgia. Rainfall could total 1 to 2 inches, with isolated pockets of 3 inches.
After the front passes on Sunday, temperatures will plummet as cold air rushes in. The morning will begin in the 50s, and temperatures will decrease throughout the day, with afternoon temperatures in the 40s. For Monday morning, we are dropping into the low 20s. Wind chills will be in the teens, and a hard freeze is likely.
All eyes turn to next week as cold air dominates the next work week. Monday is dry, but on Tuesday, an area of moisture moves in, which could result in a wintry mix across South Georgia. Snow is possible, but so are freezing rain and sleet. Wintry precipitation mixed with possible rainfall starts around Tuesday morning and continues into parts of Wednesday. Regardless, it will be cold through the end of the week, with highs in the 30s and 40s and lows in the 20s. Stay tuned for updates.
