WASHINGTON (Gray News) - President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural ceremony is expected to be moved indoors because of severe cold weather forecasted to impact Washington D.C.
Trump’s transition team announced in a statement that the president-elect’s swearing-in will take place inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Trump’s inauguration address as well as other speeches and prayers will also be moved inside.

“The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies will honor the request of the President-elect and his Presidential Inaugural Committee to move the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies inside the U.S. Capitol to the Rotunda,” the committee said in a statement.
Officials are worried that the frigid temperatures expected to hit Washington will pose a health risk to attendees and guests, according to CNN.
“It is dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of Law Enforcement, First Responders, Police K9s and even horses, and hundreds of thousands of supporters that will be outside for many hours on the 20th,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
About 250,000 guests are ticketed to attend the inauguration from around the Capitol grounds, according to an Associated Press report. Tens of thousands were expected to view the ceremony from the general admission areas and to line the parade route.
President Joe Biden, members of Congress and other dignitaries will watch the ceremony from inside the Rotunda.
A live viewing of the ceremony will be aired at the Capital One Arena Monday, which will be opened to supporters. Trump said he will attend the arena after his swearing-in ceremony and host a modified inaugural parade. He is expected to hold a rally Sunday at the arena.
The National Weather Service is predicting the temperature to be about 22 degrees at noon. It could be the coldest temperatures during swearing-in since Reagan’s, which saw temperatures in the single digits.
