GAME OF THE WEEK
The Mitchell County Eagles host the Randolph-Clay Red Devils Friday night in a matchup of two 2-0 teams.
Randolph-Clay is off to its first 2-0 start since 2016. The Red Devils are playing this season after assistant coach Brenton Truitt, the 29-year-old son of head coach Charles Truitt, was killed in a car crash on July 27.
Brenton Truitt worked with the team’s defense, specifically the linebackers. Senior Rae’shawn Clyde said the defense thinks of Brenton Truitt when the unit forces a turnover.
“Our whole defense is like ‘we gotta do this for coach because coach had us pumped up every day,’” Clyde said. “Coach had us ready to get at each other. He had us wanting to fight each other in practice because we weren’t going hard at each other. So yeah, that’s what he would want. He would want us to go our hardest every day.”
Mitchell County enters the game 2-0 under new head coach Kaream Hess. Junior Jadarian Hudson is starting at quarterback after returning to football following a multi-year absence during which he focused on basketball.
“At first it was hard. You know, it’s a lot being quarterback but leadership; I always had that down coming from basketball,” Hudson said. “You know, the team was behind me; the coach believed in me. So, I just go out there and execute, play football and have fun.”
Mitchell County vs. Randolph-Clay kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Eagles Stadium in Camilla, Georgia.
