ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A voice recording of an alleged Albany State University (ASU) student and professor is circulating social media.

WALB received the voice recording on Tuesday, April 21, from a source close to the incident.

The voice recording from Monday, April 20, captures nearly three minutes of an alleged ASU professor using inappropriate language at an alleged student, regarding her membership into a National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) Greek organization.

The voice recording does not explicitly identify the student or professor. However, it includes information regarding the student’s classes which the professor allegedly instructs.

A source close to the incident, tells us that the professor has been written up several times but is still allowed to teach the same students.

On Tuesday, April 21, WALB asked ASU these specific questions regarding the incident:

• Can you all confirm the identity of the professor in the recording?
• Is that professor under administrative review for their alleged treatment of students?
• Are there any previous complaints surrounding this professors treatment of students?

If ASU is unable to share personnel specifics, we have requested a general statement addressing what steps the university takes when concerns are raised about a faculty member’s conduct and student safety, and who students can contact to report concerns.
