WASHINGTON (TNND) — Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy plans to run for Ohio governor, sources familiar with his plans told The Washington Post.

Ramaswamy who is also the co-leader of President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative would replace Gov. Mike DeWine who is term limited.

The person who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Ramaswamy plans to announce his selection after DeWine announces his pick to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the Senate.

DeWine held a news conference Friday afternoon to announce he was selecting Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to replace Vance.

Ramaswamy ran for GOP presidential nominee in 2024 but dropped out to endorse Trump.

In November, Trump appointed Ramaswamy and Elon Musk to lead DOGE which was set up to help reduce federal spending.

Musk recently said the commission aims to cut $2 trillion from federal spending, though acknowledged that $1 trillion might be a more realistic target.
