VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - One person is hospitalized following a fire at a residence in Valdosta, according to a Valdosta Fire Department press release.

The fire reportedly happened at a residence on Melrose Drive in Valdosta. The Valdosta Fire Department wrote that crews arrived within four minutes to the scene.

“Search and rescue crews found a patient in the bedroom and were able to extract him through the window,” VFD wrote in the release. The patient was then taken to the South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) Health for emergency care.

VFD said crews quickly brought the heavy smoke and flames under control. The fire is under investigation.

The fire department was assisted by SGMC Health EMS, Georgia State Patrol and the Valdosta Police Department.
