WOODSTOCK, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A van driver died after crashing into the back of a school bus in Woodstock on Tuesday morning, according to the city’s police department.

Police said two students on the bus had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The driver was a 79-year-old man from Marietta whose name has not been released. The van’s front end ended up lodged underneath the bus.

Traffic cameras captured the moments after the van appeared to slam into the back of the school bus at the intersection of Highway 92 and Main Street. Woodstock police and fire crews responded to the crash around 6:30 a.m., and traffic was diverted for three hours.

Of the 20 students on the bus, police said two had complaints of minor injuries and were treated. The driver and other students are safe, the Cherokee County School District said.

The principal of Woodstock Elementary School sent a note to parents saying additional counselors and an extra school nurse would be at the school to support students throughout the day.

Police are reviewing camera footage from the intersection as part of their investigation.
