SANTA CLARA, Ca (WALB) — The United States beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 Wednesday to advance to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup, surviving a second-half red card that forced the Americans to finish the match with 10 men.
Folarin Balogun opened the scoring in the 45th minute with his third goal of the tournament. Malik Tillman, who assisted on Balogun’s goal, sealed the result in the 82nd minute with a free kick from just outside the box.
Balogun was sent off in the 64th minute, leaving the U.S. to defend for nearly 30 minutes a man down. Goalkeeper Matt Freese made key early saves after Bosnia started the match brightly.
The win ends a long U.S. World Cup drought against European teams.
