MEXICO CITY (TNND) — Mexico's president announced that the tariffs on Mexico will not go into effect until a month from Monday.

Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote Monday morning that she had a "good conversation" with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to her, the U.S. and Mexico made a series of agreements.

Mexico will "immediately" send 10,000 members of the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border to "prevent drug trafficking from Mexico to the United States, particularly fentanyl."

The U.S. has vowed to stop the high-powered weapons to Mexico, according to Sheinbaum.

Starting Monday, both neighboring countries are going to work on "security and trade."

The 25% tariffs that Trump intended to place on Mexico that would have started on Tuesday are on pause for one month, the Mexican president added in her post.

Trump confirmed that he spoke with Sheinbaum and pumped the brakes on the tariffs.

It was a very friendly conversation wherein she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican soldiers on the border separating Mexico and the United States," he wrote on TruthSocial.

Trump explained that Mexico's soldiers will be "designated to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal migrants into our country."

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick were selected to be on Trump's team making negotiations with "high-level representatives of Mexico."

"I look forward to participating in those negotiations, with President Sheinbaum, as we attempt to achieve a “deal” between our two countries," the president added.

Trump plans on speaking with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Monday afternoon.

This comes as Canada plans to levy their own tariffs in response to U.S. actions.

Trump repeated his complaints that Canada has been uncooperative, despite decades of friendship and partnerships that range from World War II to the response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Canada doesn’t even allow U.S. Banks to open or do business there,” Trump posted. “What’s that all about? Many such things, but it’s also a DRUG WAR, and hundreds of thousands of people have died in the U.S. from drugs pouring through the Borders of Mexico and Canada.
