[ORIGINAL ARTICLE] Closing arguments are underway in the trial of a Dougherty County woman accused of killing her boyfriend in March 2024.

Jenna Colley is charged with the stabbing death of Ken Covin, the father of her two children. Her defense team is making a final push to convince jurors that she acted in self-defense.

Defense Claims State Omitted Key Evidence

Colley’s attorney, Benjamin Davis, told jurors during closing arguments that prosecutors failed to present evidence ruling out self-defense. He argued that the state intentionally left out critical details about Colley’s physical condition at the time of the incident — including injuries such as a busted lip, multiple contusions, and marks on her neck documented by an emergency room doctor.

Davis invoked Georgia’s Stand Your Ground statute, arguing that Colley had the legal right to use deadly force under the state’s self-defense laws.

“Jenna Colley never said she had blood covering her. The EMS driver said he noticed the blood on Jenna Colley,” Davis told jurors. “So all that time spent talking about how she wasn’t covered with blood, he is undermining, or he’s attempting to undermine his own witness.”

Davis also challenged the prosecution’s focus on details about how and where Covin was stabbed. “We’re trying to figure out where he was stabbed when he was standing or whether he was on top. All that makes no difference,” he said. “You don’t have to wait for somebody to take your life.”

State Presents Rebuttal

The prosecution is currently delivering its rebuttal argument, during which they will reassert their case against Colley. As the party bringing the charges, the state carries the burden of proof.

Jury deliberations are expected to begin this afternoon.
