ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – The Albany Police Department has released new details of a tense standoff at the Mt. Zion Garden Apartments Monday night, where an Albany police officer was shot in the arm.
According to APD, on May 5, at around 5:26 p.m., officers were dispatched to 205 Slater King Drive in response to a disorderly conduct call involving a firearm. Upon arrival, police learned that David Edmonds Jr., 25, had been involved in a physical altercation with his neighbor’s boyfriend prior to the call.

When officers approached the apartment, police say Edmonds was inside with his girlfriend and two young children. According to police, he began shooting from within the apartment, striking Corporal Alexander Price in the arm. Albany Police Chief Michael Persley told WALB no officers returned fire and no other officers were injured. Witnesses told police they heard at least four shots fired.
Police immediately called the Hostage Negotiation Team, which successfully persuaded Edmonds to allow Cpl. Price and other officers to exit the scene for medical treatment. The injured officer was rushed to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains in stable condition.
The standoff, which lasted over an hour, ended when the SWAT Team took Edmonds into custoday without further incident.
