DOOLY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A Freightliner commercial motor vehicle experienced a driver-side tire blowout, which ultimately caused a fierty crash that shut down both lanes of Interstate 75 in Dooly County Wednesday, according to a Georgia State Patrol media release.

GSP reported the Freightliner was traveling northbound near mile marker 113 when it struck a Peterbuilt CMV after the driver lost control.

After the collision, the Freightliner truck left the shoulder of the roadway and struck a guardrail head-on, then entered the southbound lanes of the highway. It then caught fire when it came to rest, but did not collide with oncoming vehicles, according to the report.

Drivers recorded video of the scene, which showed the truck engulfed in flames. One driver shared the video with WALB News 10.

The crash happened shortly after 5 P.M. Wednesday and the highway remained closed for several hours. Traffic was backed up several miles in both directions due to detours.

According to the GSP report, the Freightliner was not insured. There were no reported injuries in the crash. The Georgia Department of Transportation reports repairs will be needed to the guardrail, but not to the roadway infrastructure.
