ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — New details have been released following an early morning shooting in East Albany.

According to the Albany Police Department, officers responded to the 100 block of Hunter Street around 1 a.m. on July 29, 2025, after a reported shooting. The victim told officers he had been trying to reach his child’s mother but received no response. He went to her residence to check on her and encountered 25-year-old Hadji Dowdell inside.

Police say an argument broke out between the two men, during which Dowdell allegedly shot the victim in the leg.

Authorities confirmed the injury appeared to be a graze wound. EMS responded to the scene, but the victim refused transport to the hospital. Attempts to contact Dowdell following the incident were unsuccessful.
