Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A free event open to the public in Albany intends to advance sound physical and mental health practices and connect community members with agencies that promote well-rounded family wellbeing.
The South GA Starz Academy organized the event that brings together several agencies to showcase the services they offer for the community.
“We deal with prevention, treatment, and recovery. And we will have people present from whatever aspect you may have a need in, as far as mental health is concerned.”
Along with information on ways to keep the body healthy, a large focus will be placed on mental well-being. In addition to showcasing resources, a mental health panel will host a discussion.
“We have put together, you know, based on some of our data, some questions that will hopefully lead us into discussions around some of the issues that surround our area, especially with the youth in terms of drug use and suicide prevention as well,” said Green. “So we’ll be addressing those types of issues during the panel, and it will be an open forum so that those who are present can also ask questions.”
Joining South GA Starz Academy, other vendors include The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Office of Prevention Services, which is funding the event. Other agencies participating include Peach State Health Plan, Albany Police Department, Albany Area Primary Health Care, and Dougherty County Health Department.
While the day is about educating the family on resources they can count on for physical and mental health support, it also provides fun for the entire family.
A live DJ and line dancing are scheduled. There will also be bounce houses for the kids. Gift cards will be given away every 30 minutes, and the first 200 guests get free food.
The Community Strong Wellness and Resource Fair will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albany Civic Center.
