ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — An unborn child was killed, and two people were hurt in a shooting on Interstate 285 on Saturday, according to Atlanta police.
Just before 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the I-285 Southbound Ramp SW and Cascade Road SW about the shooting. They found a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.
Police say the man and woman were “alert, conscious and breathing” when they were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Officers later learned that the woman was pregnant and her unborn child was hit by gunfire, according to police. The child died from her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical officials.
The scene shut down several southbound lanes, backing up traffic headed in that direction.
No word has been released about a possible suspect.
The investigation is ongoing.
