WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump railed against Democrats on Saturday for delaying the process of getting his nominees confirmed and praised Senate Republicans for fighting to get them approved.
"The Radical Left Democrat Senators are doing everything possible to DELAY these wonderful and talented people from being approved," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "If George Washington or Abraham Lincoln were up for approval, the Dems would delay, as long as possible, then vote them out. The Democrats want our Country to fail, because they have failed."
He went on to praise Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., and the "Republican Warriors in the Senate."
"Fight and WIN. I am with you all the way!!!" Trump continued.
Thune said on Thursday that "everything is on the table" as Republicans consider making rule changes to the confirmation process for presidential appointees.
"If we're going to do something, we're going to look at how we would make a modification to our rules to ensure that we can't have the kind of delay and obstruction and blocking that the Democrats are currently using," Thune told Fox News.
Changes to the confirmation process that Republicans are considering include having nominations sent out in blocks for voting and also shortening debate time for nominees, which could backfire on Republicans when Democrats come to hold the majority.
As August recess looms, which Trump has threatened to cancel due to the stall in nomination approvals, Republicans have prioritized pushing through Trump's nominees, with more than 160 still awaiting Senate approval.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, defended the party's approach, stating on X that "historically bad nominees deserve historic levels of scrutiny."
"We have never seen nominees as flawed, as compromised, as unqualified as Trump’s," he said. And they know that."
