WASHINGTON (TNND) — Time magazine's latest print cover features billionaire Elon Musk behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office only a few weeks after President Donald Trump was named the magazine's 2024 Person of the Year.
The photo teases a cover story titled "Inside Elon Musk's War on Washington" which dives into his efforts with the Department of Government Efficiency to cut down on excessive government spending.
While speaking with reporters from the White House during a meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister, Trump was asked if he had any response to the magazine seemingly portraying his right-hand man as the one really in charge.
"Is Time magazine still in business?" Trump responded while smirking. "I didn't even know that."
He went on to compliment Musk by saying he is doing "a great job" and is "finding tremendous fraud and corruption and waste."
"You see it with the USAID, but you're going to see it even more so with other agencies and other parts of government," Trump said. "He's got a staff that's fantastic. He's wanted to be able to do this for a long time. Everybody else knew it was existent, but I think never so much."
Trump was named Person of the Year for the second time in December 2024 after he was bestowed the honor nearly a decade ago in 2016.
While celebrating the news, Trump rang the bell at the New York Stock Exchange and called it "a tremendous honor."
“Time Magazine, getting this honor for the second time, I think I like it better this time actually,” he said.
Musk has yet to respond to the cover but did have nothing but good things to say about the president on X.
"I love @realDonaldTrump as much as a straight man can love another man," Musk wrote.
