ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Storms associated with the remnants of what was Tropical Storm Arthur are already leaving damage behind across South Georgia Friday morning.

According to Sumter County Rescue, multiple trees were down on McMath Mill Road near James Hart Road in Sumter County. Officials asked drivers to avoid the area while crews worked to clear the roadway and restore safe travel conditions. The roadway has since reopened.

The damage comes as bands of heavy rain and severe thunderstorms continue moving through the region. Emergency officials across South Georgia are also reporting storm-related damage, including downed trees and hazardous road conditions.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office is reporting: “Please exercise caution as you head out this morning. Overnight, a few trees have fallen across roads and a substantial amount of rain has been recorded. As of 6:00 AM this morning, our gauges are showing 2.8 inches at the Sheriff’s Office and 4.8 inches in some of the northern areas.”
