TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) — A 19-year-old who was killed in a Florida shooting in early May has now been linked to Tifton.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department in Florida, officers responded May 2 to a shooting that began as a prearranged meeting and escalated into an armed robbery.

The victims were identified as Antione “Lucky” Myers, 19, of Tifton was shot and killed. Jermonti Johnson, 19, was also shot but is expected to recover, officials said.

Myers attended Tift County High School, according to his older brother, Ivan White. White said Johnson was Myers’ friend.

Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said the two victims were visiting a family member in Florida at the time of the shooting.

Chief Niemczyk said the victims approached Norrien Casminski, 18, and Martravious Aaron Blue Jr., 19, and offered to pay them to purchase cellphones on their behalf. The victims were planning to resell the phones. He said the group made stops at multiple locations before ending up near a Verizon store in St. Lucie West.

Chief Niemczyk said the two victims and the two male suspects then drove from Fort Pierce to St. Lucie West in a white Tesla, while Key followed in a different vehicle. Chief Niemczyk said police believe the two male suspects decided instead to rob the victims, and the confrontation led to the shooting.

In a May 5 press release, the Port St. Lucie Police Department said Casminski was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Chief Niemczyk said the arrest came within about 72 hours and involved multiple agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service.

Police said Casminski called 911 and turned himself in. Police also arrested Blue and Sharlett Nylay Key, 18, officials said.

“We honestly just want everyone to know how loved Lucky was and how contagious his laughter was. He would give you the shirt off his back and was loyal to his family and friends,” Myers’ family told WALB.

Myers’ funeral will be Saturday, May 16. The family has not released the funeral details.

WALB has not confirmed whether Johnson has ties to Tifton.
