TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A Tift County school bus driver is being hailed as a hero after saving a woman’s life when she noticed a house on fire shortly after picking up her first rider one morning.
While on her morning route, the bus driver spotted smoke rising from a home and immediately sprang into action. She quickly stopped the bus, called 911, and then rushed to the house. Without hesitation, she pounded on the door until she was able to wake the woman inside and help her escape the flames.
The heroic act was recognized at the Tift County Board of Education meeting, where the driver was presented with a prestigious “Beyond the T” award. The woman she saved and her family were also in attendance to publicly thank the driver for her quick thinking and bravery.
The bus driver’s quick response likely prevented a devastating tragedy and has earned her the admiration of the community. The recognition at the board meeting highlighted not only her life-saving actions but also the dedication and responsibility that bus drivers exhibit every day.
Thanks to her swift and courageous efforts, a life was saved, and the Tift County community was reminded of the importance of vigilance and compassion.
