TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - The Tift County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-month-old infant’s death as child abuse. WALB spoke to the child’s mother about what happened.
Patience Billington, a first-time mother, says on Sunday, she received a call she never thought she’d receive.
Billington says while her son, Damarii “Grant” Billington, was with Demarcus Campbell, his father, he ended up being taken to the hospital. According to an incident report issued by the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, Southwell Regional Medical Center called officials due to a possible child abuse case.
“They let us see him and I pointed out the bruise on his face. That’s when I knew it was trauma,” Billington said. “They said shaken baby syndrome. He got shooken— to yeah.”
Damarii was taken off life support Monday night.
Campbell is currently being held at the Tift County Sheriff’s Office facing one count of second-degree child cruelty.
A GoFundMe is now live to help the family lay Damarii to rest. The family says no amount is too small.
