ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — On January 1, 1918, South Georgia’s Atkinson County was organized.

Atkinson County sits in between Clinch County and Coffee County. About 8,400 people live in the county, which spans about 338 square miles.

Atkinson was one of the last Georgia counties to be created. It was No. 153 of 159 total counties.
